Network Linux Administrator

About the Role

As a Network / Linux Administrator you will be working autonomously and within a team of professionals to design, configure, integrate, test and maintain high-availability networks of primarily Linux-based systems. The role will involve a combination of individual and integrated team deployments, with multi-disciplinary agile team structures driving larger scale solution activities. Projects will largely focus on supporting the development, testing, deployment and sustainment of state-of-the-art cyber and spectrum security (including Electronic Warfare) software solutions to the Australian Defence Force.

The role involves close collaboration with in-house and client stakeholders, utilising your in-depth knowledge of Linux and network topologies to maintain high system availability and to deliver robust long-term solutions. You will provide day-to-day systems support and administration to stakeholders, and actively analyse and report risks as they are identified. You will be assisting with the development and improvement of policies, procedures and documentation for delivery, support, and monitoring of DevOps / DevSecOps and ICT environments.

To be considered for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and eligible for a security clearance.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Linux system with day-to-day configuration, management, and operation of Linux environments.
  • Understanding of Networks within VMWare: (e.g. vCenter, NSX, vRealise and experience with Kubernetes Networking).
  • Experience in management for networking products (e.g. Fortinet / Juniper).
  • Understanding of Virtual Network Infrastructure (Firewalls, Load Balancers, Gateways), and security products.
  • Experience in interacting with users and key business stakeholders by providing subject matter expertise.
  • Experience in administering and monitoring ICT systems in general.
  • You are adaptable, communicate fluently both orally and in writing, and are comfortable presenting complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in managing small project teams to deliver high quality outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills allow you to collaborate and transfer knowledge across teams, mentor less senior staff, and interact with customer stakeholders.

To be considered, it is desirable that candidates will have:

  • Linux Management (RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Satellite, and Foreman).
  • Experience with VMware TKG, Rancher, Ubuntu, Dell OS10, Kubernetes CNI, IstioKnowledge of DevOps / DevSecOps principles and practices.
  • Operating system and application patch management.
  • Cyber security toolsets (detect, record, monitor, analyse).
  • Strong understanding of current security landscape and threats.
  • Advanced Diploma and/or Bachelor Degree in System Administration, ICT, or Computer Science.
  • Current active Defence Clearance is highly desirable.
