About the Role

The Cybersecurity Technical Writer plays a critical role in developing high-quality system security documentation in support the Defence assessment and authorisation process and the enterprise’s advanced cybersecurity solutions. This position is responsible for translating complex security concepts, frameworks, and technologies into clear, concise, and accessible documentation that supports both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The Cybersecurity Technical Writer will work under general direction of the cyber security manager, this role exercises discretion and manages work within deadlines. The position collaborates with clients, cybersecurity experts, engineers, and project managers to gather and synthesize information, ensuring that all materials meet the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and compliance with industry regulations, including cybersecurity frameworks, risk management policies, and defence sector requirements.

  • Mentorship & Collaboration – Provide guidance to junior team members, support skill development, and contribute to work reviews with constructive feedback.
  • Consulting & Client Engagement – Offer expertise to clients, effectively communicating complex cybersecurity concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Process Improvement & Best Practices – Enhance documentation processes, standards, and team practices while identifying and addressing potential risks.
  • Work Planning & Execution – Plan, schedule, and monitor tasks to meet objectives, adjusting as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Continuous Learning & Professional Development – Stay up to date with industry trends, certifications, and best practices, contributing to team growth and knowledge sharing.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in developing System Security plan’s (SSP), Security Risk Management Plan’s (SRMP), Detailed Designs (DD) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Proven background in technical writing, preferably in defence, Cyber security, engineering, or technology, with a portfolio of high-quality documentation.
  • Knowledge of the Defence Assessment and Authorisation process and InfoSec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP).
  • Knowledge of the Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Essential 8 are highly desirable.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong proofreading, editing, and research abilities to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity in documentation.
  • Proficiency in writing tools (e.g., Microsoft Word), graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Visio), and strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Qualifications such as CISM, CISSP, CRISC, CISA and IRAP are highly desirable but not essential.
